A Running List of All Today

A summer girl with fire heart,
Baked in sun yet seldom hot
January never loved,
Shadowed heavens up above
Antithesis of all I hope,
Bleak with bitter, biting snow

The first began a solemn sign:
A shallow pit with open eye
Waiting games we play all day,
Too cold, too wet, so here I’ll stay
The monster has control and thinks
He’ll hold this land for weeks and weeks

Okay. Alright. I’ll let you win.
No joy in life if one can’t grin
Despite the strife, despite the odds,
Shrug and time goes on and on
With no more changes—calm and stable
Halfway mark nears like a fable

And all is still. All is well.
I laugh a bit, for all is swell!
But Monster, with his open eye,
Sees my joy and starts to cry
“You witch-like woman! No such luck!
You’ll rue the day you were so smug!”

And I barely hear the words, you see,
For a sharp wind whips them far from me
But the repercussions—I instantly feel them.
The air grows cold, and then the ceiling
Creaks and cracks and pitter-patters,
And a tall, still glass just tips and shatters

Then grumpy toads do shout and yell
And blame me for their living hell
And all the issues that abound,
Then snow falls heavy all around
And just as I’m about to say,
A curse must be upon today!

I see you there, just like a mirror;
Clarity could get no clearer
A pink carnation in the snow,
Embodiment of love and hope
A ray of light in darkened skies,
A ray so bright, it blinds the eye

Even Monster cries and shakes
In sight of this pure, crystal lake
Surrounded by lush, swaying trees;
Glory sending all to knees
Heart more golden than the sun,
This icy day is warm and won

How stunning of you to remind
That when I’m low, someone is high
When here is cold, somewhere is hot
When I am wrong, you’re probably not
When here is gray, yonder’s blue
When days are grim, the sun is you

How silly that I almost wished
Today would end and so would this,
For if I dared to speak just so,
Your day would also up and go
For shame! This day is but a gift
A blessing came and you with it

A soul so sweet and warm and kind,
Let’s celebrate that we’re alive,
For when the sun is set and done,
Bad or good, each day is won,
And while this life can’t last forever,
At least we view this sky together.
